As you can probably tell from this picture, they're expecting. With their baby boy due in early November, they've just finished transforming a spare room in their Brooklyn apartment into an adorable nursery. I was so excited when they agreed to let me share it here on AFOMFT because I have no doubt that you're going to love it as much as I do! Take a peek....
Super cute, right? I love the playful color combination of light blue and orange the parents-to-be chose for the room. It's perfect for a newborn but not so babyish that their little guy will outgrow it anytime soon.
And while too much orange and blue could have made the room feel a little circus-like, by using white as the other prominent color and keeping all of the wood in the same honey-tone, Darren and Philippa have created a room with a light and airy feel. A lot of the design elements are also associated with nature - the cloud decals, the birds on the wall - and when you combine them with the tree-top views out of the windows, the nursery becomes a truly serene space. There's really only one thing missing -- their little boy!
Here are some more details on the room from the mama-to-be:
What was your inspiration for the room?
The Serena & Lily "Ben" Crib Bedding and its wonderful bright colors.
What five words would you use to describe the nursery?
Cheerful, calming, clean lines, modern and organized (for now!)
What's your favorite part of the space?
I love the little area with the IKEA rocking chair, Room and Board lamp and basket of great books given to me by my friends at my shower.
What was the hardest thing to find?
The hardest thing was the bedding to inspire the rest of the room.
What was the easiest thing to find?
The easiest was the Flor tiles but it was hard to decide which color!
What advice would you give to other people designing a nursery?
Start early and take your time. Talk to friends and get advice on what worked for them.
A big thank you to Darren and Philippa for sharing their wonderful room!
